All about me...

My name is Benson and I was born on a farm in Murrary Bridge on 19 July 2005. When I was 8 weeks old these really lovely people came to visit the farm and took one look at me and decided right there and then I was the puppy for them. I am so happy living with my Mum and Dad and I get lots of exercise mostly on O'Sullivan's Beach where I meet lots of my doggie friends,Millie, Becky, Tasha, Sam & Kirby. I love to run for my special red bouncy ball and swim in the sea, even in the really cold weather. I also get lots of walks with my special friend David who is the grandson of my Mum and Dad. David is 9 years old and I love him because he always has time to play with me. My favourite toys are my special pink bouncy ball, a blue rubber ring and I just love playing with old plastic milk bottles. I sleep on a lovely warm bed and get special treats to eat like a lovely juicy marrow bone twice a week. I think I have come to live at the best place possible.

I really love...

Going for walks at the beach and in special parks and reserves. I love going for rides in the car every time Mum and Dad go anywhere they can take me. I loved going to Doggie Obedience School and meeting up with my doggie friends and doing the special exercises in my class. All in all I have a great life!!!

  • Teach your child to interact appropriately with dogs and not to 'play-fight' or play 'tug-of-war' games with them. Dogs can get overexcited or frightened if there is a lot of noise. So put your dog out of the way when children are playing loud games and running around.
  • Teach your dog to sit before you allow visitors to stroke it. Allowing it to jump up on people may frighten or annoy them, and children may feel very intimidated by the dog’s behaviour.
  • If you see a dog with its owner, always ask the owner for permission to pat the dog. Allow the dog to sniff the back of your hand first. If it is happy to be patted, it will sniff your hand and move towards you. You can then stroke the dog under its chin.
  • Take your dog to puppy pre-school or dog obedience school. It is very important for dogs, in particular puppies, to be socialised with other dogs and people. Remember - if your dog is trained and issued with a training certificate, you will receive a rebate on your dog registration fee.
  • Dogs can be scared by sudden disturbances. Scared dogs may bite. Always call the dog first so that you do not surprise it. Do not go near any dog when it is eating its meal or chewing a bone, especially if you do not know the dog. If you approach, the dog may bite to defend its food.
